When you check the refrigerator for food and it’s empty, what do you do?

You make the decision to either go to the store and buy some food or you head out to a restaurant. No matter what you choose, the reward to your decision is that you are no longer hungry.

Each choice you make has a reward at the end of it. Sometimes the reward is good for you – and sometimes, it’s not.

So, for your 60 second motivational minute for the week…

Everything we do comes with a reward. When we go to our job, the reward is a paycheck. When we exercise, we feel better and our health improves. When we binge Netflix or Hulu, we get to avoid doing anything responsible – we get to chill. And when we reach a goal, our reward is that we get to feel good and give ourselves a pat on the back.

Everything comes with a reward. The next time you set out to do something or to avoid doing something, think about what the reward will be before you choose to do it or not. By thinking ahead to the reward, you can make better choices, which leads to more motivation.
