When Life Hands You Lemons, Grab A Sledgehammer!

When Life Hands You Lemons, Grab A Sledgehammer!

The lemons into lemonade saying has been around since the early 1900’s in a clothing ad in Men’s Wear: “In business turn obstacles into conveniences. When handed a lemon – make lemonade of it.” Then Dale Carnegie made the saying popular when he mentioned it in a book in 1948.

Both sayings were targeted towards businessmen in the art of business. It has a place outside of business in our daily lives – to make the best out of a bad situation. But why do we have to make the best of it?

Why not take those lemons and smash them with a sledgehammer?

Take whatever life has thrown your way (lemons), acknowledge that it is there (put lemons in a pile), and then take a sledgehammer (hard decision) and smash them (incite change).

It’s up to us to make the life we want regardless what is thrown at us. Don’t like what life handed you? Change it. Lose a job and can’t find a new one? Create a new career – go back to school – start your own business. Lose a loved one (death, break-up, divorce)? Allow yourself time to grieve and open yourself up to love again. Miserable where you live? Find out why and change it or decide to move and plan out how. Broke and barely making ends meet? Look at your earn/spend ratio and change it. Find or create a new job. Move to a new location. There are PLENTY of ways to change. Kicker is you really have to WANT to change.

We’re humans – we will find ourselves in crappy situations throughout our whole lives. But just because you’re in a crappy situation doesn’t mean you have to make the best of it — make a NEW situation instead.

Now grab that sledgehammer and smash the crap out of those lemons!
